As our Stakeholder Engagement Advisor, you will support the formulation and development of diverse carbon forestry projects in Colombia. In this role you will identify, coordinate and report all the social, cultural and governance aspects required by any standard used by the company for the certification of carbon projects in the Colombian carbon tax market. As one of our stakeholder engagement advisors, you will work closely with the Project Managers and collaborators of the Project team, ensuring that all the project’s collaborators receive ongoing training and have the necessary skills and tools to comply with the community requirements.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • In a collaborator role you will:Contribute with policy inputs and theory of change in REDD projects with collectives territories (indigenous, afros and peasant lands)
  • Develop the analysis of the socioeconomic, cultural and political conditions of the territory based on primary and secondary information
  • Ensure an effective channel of communication with all project stakeholders, especially with ethnic communities, to promote their participation and effective with projects goals
  • Coordinate and develop meetings with different stakeholders.
  • Prepare the summary reports of the training topics to be developed in the social workshops and keep attendance lists
  • Design and develop training materials to communicate different AFOLU and carbon concepts
  • Schedule, prepare and execute training workshops to identify strengths, threats, weaknesses, and opportunities of the project activities
  • Develop training protocols for community leaders in product development and governance
  • Support the Project Manager in the development of community and general sections of Projects Design and Monitoring Reports under different carbon standards
  • Support the Project Manager in proposal/deliverable preparation and completion to the quality required by South Pole and the client. The nature of the support may be either technical and administrative depending on the nature, topic, and complexity of the mandate
  • Support the Project Manager as an expert on complex and strategic issues related to Project Owners and Project Proponents to accomplish the standards’ rules and requirements
  • Support the development of community processes required by different projects in the company
  • Identify and evaluate community impacts and their mitigation measures that may be incurred by the implementation of projects coordinated by South Pole in the territory of influence
  • Design and execution of meetings and workshops of socialization with the stakeholders involved in the project, including local stakeholder consultations according to the standard and communities’ requirements
  • Local stakeholders consultation report complying with the quality required by South Pole and the client
  • Conduct site visits and travel to project locations whenever needed
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed on time and within the personal time budget
  • Develop community monitoring plans and reports according to project goals and indicators, Standards requirements and specific conditions and capacities of stakeholders involved

General roles:

  • Working on assignments that are diverse in nature, applying company policies, processes and procedures to resolve a variety of issues/problems
  • Gather, prepare and present information to represent South Pole at meetings, as requested
  • Undertake research into possible partners and collaborators for upcoming opportunities
  • Participate in formal and informal networking opportunities as requested
  • Share relevant contacts and information on possible opportunities

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, political science, public policy, anthropology or sociology
  • At least 24 months of work experience, including experience in community participatory processes, monitoring and quantification of community impacts and working with indigenous communities
  • Demography and statistic knowledge
  • Ability to create high quality written documents (proposals, deliverables, and educative material)
  • Excellent oral and written command of Spanish. English fluency is a plus
  • Ability to manage relationships and inter-institutional coordination, as well as experience managing ethnic social groups
  • REDD, Ecosystem Services or Supply Chain Sustainability knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with laws and regulatory frameworks regarding indigenous communities in Colombia is highly value
